Deciding to outsource some tasks instead of doing them yourself is a huge step, but to be successful you have to know how to outsource successfully. This means that you must be able to find someone that can provide the service you require with high quality, in a timely manner, at a reasonable price, and at the same time protect yourself from losing money.

Work for hire websites such as Getafreelancer and Elance are great ways to outsource one time projects or find an ongoing provider. You can post a project for free, including a description and budget. Providers then bid on your project, provide samples, and allow you to learn about their talent and experience.

Once you have chosen a provider, you can protect yourself by using the website's project management and escrow tools. Basically, you set up deliverables and place the project amount into an escrow account with the website. When the deliverables have been met and accepted, you can release the escrow funds to the provider. If you have any issues, the website's arbitrators will assist you in seeking resolution and/or restitution.

You can, of course, choose to continue to use your chosen provider for ongoing outsourcing work. You can continue to use the work for hire website or you can continue on your own. When you continue on your own you will want to create a contract or agreement that includes the provider's full legal name and address, payment terms, and invoicing arrangements. This will protect both of you from any disagreements in the future.

Additionally, you will need to set up a PayPal or similar online pay account to use in paying your freelance workers. This is the easiest way to pay, and most of the sites allow your providers to invoice you through the site as well. When you want a project completed, you simply forward the details, receive confirmation from the provider, receive the completed work with an invoice, and pay via online.
